Longtime head coach Jay Malott retired in July.
(Aurora, Ind.) – South Dearborn High School has a new varsity baseball head coach.
Austin Bowling, a 2017 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School, will take over the program following approval from the South Dearborn School Board on Tuesday night.
Bowling is just the third head baseball coach in school history, following Larry Hornbach and recently retired Jay Malott.
Malott announced his retirement from coaching in July after 38 years at SD, including 29 as the head coach.
Bowling was a star athlete at Lawrenceburg, playing both football and baseball. In 2016, he rushed for 3,165 yards and 52 touchdowns, helping lead the Tigers to a state championship appearance. On the baseball diamond, he hit .415 his senior season with 35 runs batted in.
Since his playing days, Bowling has coached at numerous levels in baseball and football, including the Knights’ program under Jay Malott during the 2022 season.
