Job Title: Executive Director for Dearborn County CASA
Position Description Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for the continuing development and expansion of CASA of Dearborn County for the purpose of reducing the use and abuse of Alcohol and other Drugs among youth and adults in Dearborn County.
This is a full-time position.
-Utilize the Strategic Prevention Framework to support a comprehensive community prevention plan
-Coordinate implementation of evidence-based strategies to effectively fulfill the community-wide prevention plan
-Create, manage, and executive comprehensive short and long-term project work plans that incorporate multiple sectors of the community utilizing evidence-based prevention strategies
-Facilitate community education and organize special events related to substance misuse prevention, criminal justice, and treatment/intervention efforts
-Serve as information resource for the coalition and the community
-Build relationships with community partners to reach program and finance goals
-Coordinate public health marketing and communications activities primarily related to substance misuse prevention
-Strengthen and support the existing local coalition network
-Evaluate, monitor, and track coalition development accomplishments
-Serve as CASA substance misuse prevention representative in partnerships within the community
-Coordinate, attend, and participate in staff and coalition meetings
-Participate in community activities or committees as it relates to substance misuse prevention in the community
-Coordinate compliance with ICJI annual Drug-Free Community grant procedure
-Coordinate with potential and ongoing CASA Mini Grant recipients
-Strengthen and support the existing coalition network
-Evaluate, monitor, and track coalition efforts in the areas of Criminal Justice and Treatment/Intervention
-Attend and participate in staff and coalition meetings
Adhere to CASA By-Laws and Policies and Procedures Manual
-Schedule 11 LCC Meetings a year and make necessary arrangements, including venue, equipment, etc.
-Work with LCC President to establish and distribute meeting agenda, previous month meeting minutes, and treasurer’s report in a timely manner via email and at the meeting.
-Provide Board and Membership with last month and upcoming month update during meetings
-Adhere to the financial policy in the CASA manual.
-Act as a liaison and outreach person between the LCC and the community. Actively participate in initiatives addressing substance use and abuse in Dearborn County.
-Act as a liaison between CJI and the LCC.
-Prepare and submit reports as requested by the Commission: Coordinator activity report, LCC Annual Financial Report, LCC DFC Fund Worksheet, LCC Quarterly Performance Reports, and any other reports requested by the Council or Commission, such as the annual Comprehensive Community Plan and Updates.
-Organize the update and revisions of the Comprehensive Community Plan with assistance from the Comprehensive Community Plan committee, Executive Board, and members.
-Review the problem statements, objectives and goals with the Executive Board and Comprehensive Community Plan committee for possible changes in the Comprehensive Plan.
-Collect and report data and statistics for information needed to complete the Comprehensive Plan.
-Organize community events as directed by the Executive Committee.
-Serve as the coalition’s representative for community agencies and organizations, as well as host booths at the county fair, community and school events.
-Work with Executive Board and membership to create an annual calendar of themes to promote substance use and abuse education and awareness.
-Evaluate the advocacy efforts of CASA to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of initiatives and activities
-Participate in training opportunities and workshops to increase knowledge about prevention efforts
-Organize the grant process by working closely with the Grant Committee, submitting and accepting applications from community agencies, requesting and receiving for distribution to the Grant Committee all mid-year and end of year reports. Collect progress reports from the grant recipients. Compile report on status of grantees in preparation for new cycle. Answer questions regarding grant proposals and process to applicants.
-Follow the grant guidelines set forth in CASA’s Policies and Procedures manual
-Identify and implement fundraising opportunities for CASA
-An undergraduate degree in public health, behavioral sciences, or related field; or equivalent professional experience with community coalition building
-Beneficial to have knowledge and experience in areas of Substance Misuse Prevention, including risk and protective factors, best practices, and evidence-based strategies
-Current knowledge of drug and alcohol research and Strategic Prevention Framework, core competencies and essential processes of coalitions, environmental strategies, evidence-based programs, practices, and policies and outcomes-based evaluation
-Experience in human service delivery as it relates to community coalitions, youth, families, and community collaboration
-Proven written, oral communication, dynamic public speaking, and social media skills
-Efficient in community team building and developing and maintaining partnerships
-Demonstrates commitment to serve the community with respect for cultural diversity
-Remains flexible and efficient with changing environments and emerging demands
-Demonstrates ethical, trustworthy, and professional behavior
-Self-motivated, mission-driven, and results-oriented; able and willing to learn quickly
-Treats all people fairly, with dignity, respect, and compassion
-Ability to work independently and in collaboration with team and community partners
-Prepare documentation and reports required for program compliance in a timely manner
