(Harrison, Oh.) – If the first year is an indication of things to come, the sky is the limit for Harrison’s girls wrestling team.

Harrison finished 5th at the OHSWCA Girls State Championship over the weekend, which was the highest finish of all first-year programs.

Chloe Dearwester, who is ranked nationally, won the State Championship at 106 pounds. She is the first Girls Wrestling State Champion in school and Cincinnati history. Dearwester went 4-0 at the State Finals, winning all four matches by pinfall. Her total time on the mat was 3:15.

Jessica Edwards placed 6th at 235 pounds.

Other Harrison wrestlers competing at State include: Lilly Kinsel (126 lbs.), Aaliyah Lee (131 lbs.), Madison Greene (137 lbs.), Molly Hudler (160 lbs.), Gabby Chandler (189 lbs.), and Rylee Kirkwood (235 lbs.).

Programs like Harrison are helping put girls wrestling in the spotlight in Ohio. With the popularity of girls wrestling on the rise, there is hope the sport will become a sanctioned OHSAA sport sooner rather than later.
