(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - St. Lawrence School students will soon be able to tour world-famous landmarks, dive under the ocean, go snowboarding, or visit back in time without leaving Lawrenceburg.

The school is introducing a Class VR virtual reality system by Avantis Educational Systems. The top-notch system includes eight VR headsets which students can wear and instantly be immersed in a field trip, geometry lesson, exercise routine, or countless other applications.

"We want our students to have the best educational tools available so they can become the best students they can be," says St. Lawrence School Principal Rob Detzel. "We are really looking forward to rolling this thing out and using it across our curriculum."

It will give students a unique, interactive, simulated hands-on education in STEAM subjects, but a wide-ranging software suite will include tools for history, English, and physical education.

The school is investing savings, private donations and grant funds to bring VR to the classroom.

Teachers have received professional training so they will be able to effectively use the system. Detzel plans to have students engaging in an exciting new way to learn as soon as this fall.

"It's not just a fun device. It's a fun device for education," said Detzel.
