Ohio Co. Museum Hosting The Edna & Flo Quilt Show

Two local seamstresses' collection of quilts will be on public display in April.

Dozens of quilts by Edna George (left) and Flo Askin will be on display in Rising Sun April 4th through 21st. Photos provided.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - Flo Askin and Edna George never had needles and thread far from their hands.

Both were seamstresses making clothes for themselves and family members, but it was a 40-year passion that bonded the two: quilting.

The two met in 1930 and soon after began quilting blankets for their whole family.

Now, Flo’s granddaughter, Sally McWilliams, along with her cousins have pulled over 30 quilts from the family’ cupboards and are putting them on display. April 4 through the 21st locals can walk through the one-of-a-kind quilts at the Ohio County Historical Museum.

The event will feature hand quilted patchwork pieces and floral applique patterns that were popular from the 1930s to the 1950s.

“This is not an exhibit of historic quilts from museum collections, nor is it a show of recent examples of fabrication innovation. This show is a slice of the recent past and a window into our memories,” said McWilliams.
