(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Dearborn County will change its snow travel emergency levels from numbers to colors.
County Commissioners have approved an ordinance which designates the levels as yellow (advisory), orange (watch), or red (warning).
The move puts Dearborn County’s travel alert system in line with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s recommendation which all 92 counties are adopting.
“Looking at the changes we are not changing the explanation of the levels just how we identify them,” said Dearborn County Emergency Management Director Bill Black, Jr.
Drivers could be ticketed during the most serious “red” level. Commissioners would have to approve a formal declaration of an emergency “red” level before it could go into effect.
The Department of Homeland Security will continuously update an online map of county travel emergencies at http://www.in.gov/ai/appfiles/dhs-countyMap/dhsCountyMap.html.
