(Batesville, Ind.) – Batesville resident Randy Obermeyer has earned the Silver Spark Plug Award.

Obermeyer, terminal manager for Batesville Casket, was one of three trucking industry professionals recently honored with the highest award from the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council.

He received the Silver Spark Plug at the opening of the TMC’s Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition.

“The Silver Spark Plug is our industry’s highest honor, recognizing professional excellence in commercial vehicle maintenance,” said Robert Braswell, TMC executive director. “This year’s winners represent the pinnacle of our industry and we are pleased to bestow this honor on them.”

Obermeyer has responsibility for the maintenance of Batesville’s private fleet, which includes everything from over-the-road rigs to local delivery trucks, and manages over-the-road drivers operating out of the Batesville and Indianapolis locations. He serves on the boards of the ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council and Trucker Buddy International, and was named a Truck Fleet Innovator by Heavy Duty Trucking in 2017.

“Throughout his career, Randy has shown a passion for excellence and a natural curiosity for learning that have propelled him to do great things,” said John Linville, vice president of supply chain at Batesville. “He is a true asset to our team and we’re proud to have him as part of the Batesville family.”

ATA President and CEO Chris Spear said more than half of the 7.3 million people employed by the trucking industry do something other than drive a truck.

“These individuals are examples to all of us in this industry and they’re to be commended,” Spear said.
