CROSS COUNTRY

The Greensburg Invite took place on what looked like a lovely evening, but it turned out to be a dramatic night of rain, wind and cold; at least for the girl’s race.  The girls race started with the sun shining, but as the leaders started into their third mile the sky changed, the wind picked up and the temperature dropped.  The rain seemed to be coming sideways it was so strong.  Tents in the team-camp-area started being lifted up and tossed around.  The girl runners were true champions and the fans/spectators deserve a word of congratulations as well.  As the girl’s race ended, the weather changed, and the boy’s race was run with nothing by sun and calm winds.  That was just a description of the weather; now onto the results.

The Trojan Ladies took 3rd behind Batesville in first and Greensburg in second.  Rachel Campell took third to Brenner Hannah and Ava Hanson.  Rachel ran a 20:22. She was followed by her fellow Trojans: Pflum (15), Henderson (17), Doan (18) and Inderhees (19).  The Trojans had all five of their runners in prior to Greensburg’s 5th runner but the points still put them in the lead.  Due to injuries Bender and Hicks did not run tonight, in order to rest and get ready for the State Tournament in nine days.

In the Boy’s race the Trojans ran well, but only one Trojan earned a Personal Record, David Massingale who dropped 43 seconds; a great way for him to finish his season.  The Trojans were led by Werner early in the race but Schwebach eventually took the first Trojan position placing sixth overall, with Werner in 12.  The rest of the scoring trojans were Stenger (15), Hagen (17) and Fleming (19).  The team placed third with 69 points, behind Batesville (50) and Greensburg (62).  They were able to beat out Connersville with 82 and Franklin Community, Lawrenceburg, Hauser, South Decatur and North Decatur.

All good things must come to an end, the Greensburg Invite marks the end of the regular season for the East Central Trojan Cross Country Team.  And with every end there is a new beginning; in nine days the Trojans will embark on the annual journey of the State Tournament.  Tonight, however will be the last day of racing for some amazing athletes.  We hope they leave their best races on the course and many memories and lessons learned in their heart.
