Co-Champs South Ripley, Shawe Place Three Each on ORVC Girls Basketball All-Conference Team

(Versailles, Ind.) – Sixteen girls basketball players have been named to the 2022-23 ORVC All-Conference Team.

The Ohio River Valley Conference released their all-conference team, mental attitude award winners and coaches of the year on Thursday.

South Ripley and Shawe Memorial, the co-champions of the ORVC, each placed three on the all-conference team.

Emily Flood, Katelynn Samples, and Reese Obendorf made it for the Lady Raiders. They are South Ripley’s top three scorers, combining for 25.7 points per game.

The Lady Raiders will play #1 North Knox (26-1) in the Class 2A Regional at the Crawford County. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Another regional qualifier, Jac-Cen-Del, placed three on the all-conference team. Julia Meyer, Reagan Hughes and Olivia Neal all finished the regular season among the top eight scorers in the ORVC. Meyer and Neal were also among the top rebounders in the conference.

The Lady Eagles will play Bethesda Christian (12-13) at the Southwestern (Shelbyville) Regional on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Milan’s Kaiya Rinear earned a spot on the all-conference team following an impressive freshman season. She finished as the conference’s leading rebounder (12.0 RPG) and second-leading scorer (13.8 PPG).

Other notable all-conference selections include Rising Sun’s Baylee Morris and Alyssa Simpson and the Switzerland County duo of Courtney Higgins and Bri Stow.

Simpson averaged a double-double this season with 10.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Morris was an 11.7 point per game scorer and was among the top 3-point shooters in the conference.

Courtney Higgins was second in assists with 99. She also averaged a team-high 10.5 PPG. Stow, a sophomore, averaged 10.5 PPG and made the fourth-most 3’s in the conference.

The 2022-23 ORVC Co-Mental Attitude Award winners are Mya McNew (South Ripley) and Emma Long (Southwestern)

South Ripley Matt McNew and Shawe Memorial’s Drew King are the 2022-23 ORVC Co-Coaches of the Year.
