(Undated) - Vice President Mike Pence's brother may be headed to Congress to represent southeastern Indiana.

Greg Pence has secured the GOP primary for Indiana's 6th congressional district seat, which was once held by his little brother before he became governor.

“Thanks to all of you for the honor and privilege to be your Republican nominee. I am ready to serve again,” the retired Marine told supporters at his victory party in Columbus.

Among five candidates, Pence garnered 66 percent of the vote. Pence said he's proud to have earned the nomination.

“It has been a fun few months traveling around the district, sharing our campaign message, meeting more and more wonderful people. You made this nomination possible,” he said.

Pence is expected to win November's general election in the very conservative district. His opponent in the fall will be Muncie businesswoman Jeannine Lee Lake, who won a six-way race for the Democratic nomination with 38 percent of the vote Tuesday.

He is a retired Cummins Inc. executive who has never held elective office.
