Two Dead in Residential House Fire in Ripley County

The structure had been totally consumed by a fire possibly several days prior to the response on Wednesday.

(Friendship, Ind.) - A residential structure fire broke out this week in a remote location in Ripley County. 

Friendship Volunteer Fire Department responded to a home along Cave Hill Road around 11:22 a.m.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the structure had been totally consumed by a fire possibly several days prior. The structure was in a very remote location along Cave Hill Road and not visible from the road.

The initial investigation indicated two individuals were missing and not accounted for. The working assumption became that they may be still in the residence. 

After an initial investigation, the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office was requested to assist at the scene along with the Ripley County Coroner’s Office. After several hours, the remains of two victims were removed and sent to Hamilton County Coroner’s Office for identification.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are being released at this time.
