(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Community members are rallying around a Central Elementary School teacher that has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Maggie Cole, a 5th grade teacher at CES, recently underwent chemotherapy to fight AML, which is an aggressive form of leukemia. Cole received a slow drip for seven days in hope to kill all of the disease. According to a post on CaringBridge, there is a 70 to 80 percent chance that all leukemia will be killed after the first round of chemo.

Moving forward, Cole will have a bone marrow biopsy repeated to make sure she is leukemia free.

This summer, Cole fought off infections and random fevers before getting strep throat. She was later taken to the ER where it was discovered that her blood counts were in critical levels.

To support Maggie and her family, Central Elementary School has partnered with Ohio Valley Screenprinting. "Maggie's Support Squad" t-shirts are on sale through September 10.

Proceeds will support Maggie and her journey.
