The ordinance includes a three-percent pay increase for employees
(Vevay, Ind.) – Pay increases are in order for Switzerland County workers, but some uncertainty remains for employees at the Switzerland County Animal Shelter.
Switzerland County Council voted 5-1 to approve a three-percent pay increase for employees at its regular monthly meeting on November 14, reports The Switzerland Democrat newspaper.
The county’s salary ordinance will go in effect beginning in 2019, and its possible it will eventually have an effect on the Switzerland County Animal Shelter.
There has been talk of reducing shelter employees’ hours from 40 hours a week to 34, which would match the same number of hours other county employees clock each week.
However, County Commissioners set work hours, not County Council. Therefore, a motion was brought forth at the November 14 meeting that animal shelter salaries be based on 34 hours of work with the three-percent pay increase in 2019.
The motion was ultimately shot down, as some council members thought the motion was just a way to cut salary.
Discussions about the animal shelter will likely go into 2019 as council has requested detailed reports from the shelter to help with any future decisions.
