New details have been released after a man allegedly pointed a pistol at Dearborn County deputies and officers.

Corey Brown, 30, was charged Friday with Intimidation (level 5 felony), Criminal Recklessness (level 6 felony), and Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury (class A misdemeanor). He remains held in the Dearborn County jail with no bond set as he awaits an initial appearance in court on Tuesday, September 3.

Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens issued a news release Friday detailing the events at Brown’s residence on Kirby Street at around 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Deputies responded to the home for a report of a male shooting a gun in the area. Dearborn County Sheriff’s Deputies learned that Brown had a handgun and was threatening to kill family members inside the residence.

According to Deddens, police learned that the male has a history of mental illness and was also under the influence of alcohol. On this particular night, Brown’s behavior was very erratic and he made comments that he was going to end his life. A family member ran out of the house and had the neighbor call 911. When the first officers showed up on the scene, Brown stepped out of the residence and began to approach Chief Deputy Max Socks of the Sheriff’s Department while holding a pistol in his hand. Brown told Chief Deputy Socks that he wanted to die and challenged the deputies to shoot him. Another Sheriff’s deputy observed Brown yelling and holding a gun to his head. Brown then retreated back into his residence.

During the encounter, Brown allegedly exited his residence and took off into the woods. As officers gave chase, they encountered Brown lying on his back holding a pistol towards the officers. Brown refused to comply with the officer’s commands. Sheriff’s deputies used a taser to subdue Brown and successfully took him into custody.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence. Several firearms, ammunition, as well as handwritten notes were seized, said Deddens.
