(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - St. Elizabeth Healthcare has agreed to sponsor lifesaving PulsePoint App with 911 dispatch center in Southeastern Indiana. PulsePoint is a cutting-edge mobile technology that helps save lives. This free app, which is available for both Android and iPhones, is designed for average citizens and off-duty professionals trained in CPR.

The smartphone app alerts registered users who are trained if someone nearby has called 911 with an emergency that requires CPR. Only users within a quarter mile radius are notified and only incidents that occur in public trigger a notification.

Cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the U.S. every year. Effective CPR administered immediately after a cardiac arrest can potentially double or triple the victim’s chance of survival, but less than half of victims receive that immediate help.

“We know that when someone goes into cardiac arrest, every minute is critical,” says Danielle Stiner, St. Elizabeth EMS Coordinator. “With this app, a trained bystander can be alerted of a medical emergency and in some cases begin CPR before medical help arrives. At St. Elizabeth, we are serious about our pledge to reduce heart-related deaths by 25% by the year 2025.”

A related companion app, PulsePoint Respond, can also help users find nearby AEDs (automatic external defibrillators). PulsePoint applications are available on the App Store. Find either app by searching “PulsePoint” or clicking the App Store button. The PulsePoint apps for Android are also available on Google Play. Find them by searching under Health & Fitness or by clicking the “Download Android App on Google Play” button. Once downloaded, you simply search for your city or enter in your zip code.
