(Aurora, Ind.) - Community members gathered at South Dearborn High School on Sunday evening to honor the life and memory of Bryce Valdez.

The 21-year-old was the victim of a fatal single-vehicle accident that took place last Wednesday morning in Lawrenceburg.

He graduated from South Dearborn in 2021 and was known for his bright smile and positive attitude. During his time at South Dearborn, he starred for the football team earning a varsity letter each of his four years. He was also a two-time All-EIAC selection.

Backman Field was lit up in his honor and his memory on Sunday evening. His football coach, Rand Ballart, made the following statement at Sunday's vigil.

"He was the best. He would take his shirt off his back for you. He would give you whatever you needed. The turnout we have here tonight shows what an impact that young man made."

After high school, Valdez worked as a lineman for Union Local #71 out of Columbus. He also enjoyed being a storm chaser.

Visitation for Valdez will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home in Aurora. Contributions may be made in loving memory of Bryce Valdez.
