SEI READI Awarded $15 Million To Support Regional Development Plans

Gov. Holcomb and the IEDC awarded $500 million to 17 regions representing all 92 Indiana counties.

INDIANAPOLIS – Seventeen regions representing all 92 Indiana counties have received funding to support regional development plans.

On Tuesday, Governor Eric Holcomb, Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) Board of Directors approved plans to award $500 million in READI grants.

Submissions from the 17 regions amounted to more than $1.5 billion in demand and detailed nearly 800 projects and programs with a potential investment of $15.2 billion.

The total requests tripled the allocated $500 million READI budget.

Locally, Southeast Indiana READI was awarded $15 million to support development plans in Dearborn, Union, Franklin, Ripley, Ohio, and Switzerland counties. The organization requested $50 million to assist with the completion of several projects in the six-county area.

Southeast Indiana READI’s proposal outlined six goals they would like to meet:

  • Creative Placemaking and Preservation
  • Accessible Housing and Infrastructure
  • Quality Health, Safety, and Social Services
  • Life-Long Learning
  • Economic Growth Momentum
  • Comprehensive Regional Marketing

Some of the projects listed in the group’s proposal included:

  • Liberty Theatre Project (Lawrenceburg)
  • Lawrenceburg Riverfront Development
  • Aurora Riverfront Vision Plan
  • Versailles Courthouse Square Pocket Park
  • Ohio County Pavilion and Pop-up Project
  • Milan Basketball District Light Project
  • Highway 50/State Road 101 Connector
  • Versailles Pedestrian/Bike Trails Extension
  • Dearborn County Trails Project
  • Greendale Sports and Entertainment Project
  • Vevay Flats (Residential Area)
  • Switzerland County Workforce Housing

“The seventeen regions submitted innovative, creative and visionary projects that will result in a positive economic impact on Indiana’s future,” said Gov. Holcomb. “It took immense collaboration between communities as they put aside their own visions and worked together to present the best plan for the region. These plans will shape Indiana for generations to come and bring value to our state like nothing we’ve witnessed before. I want to thank the general assembly for having the courage and leadership to prioritize this initiative.”
