Students will be able to see a doctor without leaving the school.

(Batesville, Ind.) - Batesville Community School Corporation, in partnership with Margaret Mary Health and the Indiana Rural Health Association, offers school-based telehealth services to its students. This means your child has the opportunity to be seen by a licensed health care provider without having to leave school.

Telehealth uses technology to deliver care at a distance. Essentially, your child will have a “virtual office visit” with a provider via a secure and confidential channel using computer cameras, telehealth equipment, and speakers. This equipment gives the provider the ability to examine the student’s ears, eyes, nose, throat, lungs, and skin.

Telehealth services can be used to diagnose and treat a variety of acute illnesses and minor injuries. Assisted by the school nurse, a student can be seen for rashes, pink eye, coughs, colds, strep throat, earaches, and flu-like symptoms.

Limited lab testing is also available. Parents do not have to be present for a child to be seen, however, a consent form must be signed. There will be an informational meeting for BPS parents on Wednesday, July 31st at 6:30 PM in the BPS Cafeteria.
