Rising Sun HS Endorsed As Early College

Rising Sun High School has a rich history of offering dual credits to students.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Only 40 of Indiana’s 406 high schools can claim being a certified Early College.

Rising Sun High School is one of them.

On Monday, Rising Sun-Ohio County Community Schools Superintendent Brandon Roeder announced that Rising Sun High School has been endorsed as an Early College High School by the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) through the University of Indianapolis.

CELL evaluates high schools based on eight core principles including targeted student population, curriculum, college-going culture, rigorous instruction, and more.

Rising Sun High School has a rich history of offering dual credits to students. Through a partnership with the Ohio County Community Foundation, each RSHS senior has the opportunity for a $1,000 scholarship to take two classes at Ivy Tech Lawrenceburg during their last semester of high school.

Those college courses help students prepare for their post-secondary career. Over 25 percent of RSHS students graduate with the Indiana College Core diploma, cutting cost for students and their families.

In 2017, Rising Sun High School ranked 5th for percentage of high school students who graduate with at least three college credits.

In addition to being recognized as an Early College, RSHS has received a five-year grant from the Rural Early College Network to expand additional credentialed educators to teach dual credit classes into the future.
