Ripley County Students Receive Governor's Work Ethic Certificate

Congratulations to the 29 students that received this certificate

(Ripley County, Ind.) Genesis: Pathways to Success, an initiative ran by Ripley County Community Foundation awarded 29 students from Ripley County Schools.

22 students from Jac-Cen-Del High School and 7 from South Ripley received Governor’s Work Ethic Certificates (GWEC).

This certificate shows that students possess the employability and character skills needed to be successful as they take their next steps.

“The Governor’s Work Ethic Certificate is a great way for students to prepare for life after high school and make connections early on,” stated Clarice Patterson, the Director of Genesis: Pathways to Success. Patterson further noted, “As a program through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, our goal is to give all Ripley County students the opportunity to earn this certificate, which proves that they have the soft skills needed to be successful.”

In order to receive the certificate students must

Meet requirements in 9 competencies, (5 academic subjective measures and 4 work ethic measures)
Have 3 school employees sign saying the competencies have been met
Have a 2.0 GPA or higher
98% or better attendance
One or fewer disciplinary referrals
6 hours of community service

Employer partners offer guaranteed interviews, increased base pay, industry tours, tuition reimbursement, and/or other incentives to the students who earn the certificate.
