Ripley Co. EMA Director Dies Suddenly

A public memorial service for J. Patrick Rose will happen Monday in Versailles.

J. Patrick Rose died on January 4, 2019.

(Ripley County, Ind.) – J. Patrick Rose, the former director of Ripley County’s Emergency Management Agency, has died.

According to the Ripley County EMA, Rose died on January 4 at a hospital in Louisville. His passing was sudden at age 52.

Rose was the director of Ripley County EMA since 2011, helping to coordinate emergency planning and response in the county. He led an effort to get Ripley County declared a StormReady county by the National Weather Service in 2015.

But his public service began well before that. A former Marine and Kentucky and New York National Guard member, Patrick served in Iraq, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. Following the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, Rose was deployed to the World Trade Center for 11 months. He retired from the military as an Army captain in 2011.

“As a dedicated public servant, who loved his country, family and friends, Patrick was larger than life,” his obituary states.

A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 14 at the Ripley County Courthouse Annex in Versailles.

A final service will be held in his hometown of Albany, New York on Saturday, January 19. He will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
