Update published at 1:34 p.m.:

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Harry Maginity says State Road 156 near Vevay should reopen to traffic by Saturday morning.

A large hole opened in the roadway on the eastbound approach to the concrete arch bridge over Plum Creek late Thursday night. The hole is believed to be at least 15 feet deep.

Maginity said INDOT engineers have determined that there is no structural damage to the bridge. For that reason, crews can simply fill the hole and repave it Friday.

Equipment is being transported to the site Friday afternoon.
