Police: Brookville Man Was High On Meth During Crash That Injured Four

Police say Allred tested positive for Methamphetamine and Cannabinoids (THC) following the crash.

(Dearborn County, Ind.) – An alleged intoxicated driver has made an initial appearance in court after being accused of causing a crash that injured four people.

James C. Allred, 54, of Brookville, is currently being held in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center on $10,000 surety bond and $2,500 cash bond.

He is charged with three counts of Operating a Vehicle with a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 6 felony), three counts Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 6 felony), Operating a Vehicle With a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance (Class C misdemeanor), and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Endangerment) (Class A misdemeanor).

The charges stem from a head-on-collision on November 5, 2016 on Harrison-Brookville Road. According to court documents, a witness told police that she was stopped in traffic heading westbound when she observed Allred’s pickup truck go left of center and collide with an eastbound vehicle.

The crash caused injuries to four people, including a fractured right clavicle, fractured pelvis, fractured arm and leg lacerations.

Following the incident, Allred consented to a blood test at then Dearborn County Hospital. According to a probable cause affidavit, Allred tested positive for Methamphetamine and Cannabinoids (THC).

Allred is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in Dearborn County Superior Court II on May 1 at 1:30 p.m.
