Ohio Governor Announces Next Groups Eligible For COVID-19 Vaccine

The goal is to start the next phase of vaccinations in mid-January.

(Columbus, Oh.) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced the next groups that will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

On Wednesday, the governor said the next broad category of people eligible to be vaccinated will be older Ohioans age 65 and up.

That age group makes up just under 87 percent of COVID-19 deaths in Ohio.

DeWine added that the state will also begin offering vaccines to younger people with severe inherited or developmental disorders that make them particularly vulnerable, such as Sickle Cell or Down Syndrome.

Adult school staff will also be eligible to receive the vaccine during the next phase.

DeWine says the goal is to start the next phase of vaccinations around mid-January.

“We are still working to determine the logistics of how the vaccines will be distributed,” DeWine added.
