A total of 21 people were hurt when a South Dearborn Community Schools bus crashed into the rear of a Rumpke trash truck on State Road 350 Wednesday morning.

Nineteen of those injured people were high school and middle school students riding the bus, according to South Dearborn Community Schools superintendent Eric Lows. None of the students' injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The students were transported to Highpoint Health in Lawrenceburg. One student was later transferred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

One of the injured students suffered possibly two broken legs, Lows said.

The school bus driver and at least one person with the Rumpke truck were also injured. Lows indicated the bus driver's injuries were minor, as the driver was walking around at the crash scene following the wreck.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to our students and staff and family members that are receiving medical attention as we speak," Lows said at the hospital.

The school district began working immediately to notify parents of the situation.

"We obviously want to get the word out to our greater school community as quickly as possible when a situation like this occurs," said Lows.
