MGPI Alters Some Production To Help Make Sanitizer, Disinfectants

Several local businesses are helping aid the community in any way they can.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Alcohol production at MGPI is a little different these days.

Lawrenceburg has long being known for distilling whiskey and other types of liquor. That type of production hasn't stopped, but MGPI of Indiana, the owner of the historic distillery in Lawrenceburg, has shifted some of its alcohol production from beverage to industrial alcohol for sanitizers and disinfectants.

An MGPI spokesperson released the following statement regarding the shift in production:

"We applaud the distilling industry for helping in the fight against COVID-19. MGP (Nasdaq: MGPI) is playing an important role in this effort by doing everything we can to address an exponential increase in demand for our industrial alcohol, which is used in the production of hand sanitizers and commercial disinfectants. While we’ve always produced a significant amount of the alcohol needed for these products, we have ramped up production at our Kansas and Indiana facilities during this critical time. MGP employees are working around the clock to support the needs of companies that produce these vital products. All of us are committed to continuing the legacy our company was founded upon more than 75 years ago, as a supplier of industrial alcohol for the U.S. war effort."

Others are stepping up locally to help those in need. On Thursday, representatives from Tom Tepe Autocenter in Milan and Car Country in Aurora donated a $6,600 check to Kevin Wang, the owner of Wang's Hot Chicken, to purchase approximately 10,000 face masks.

The masks will be donated to local hospitals, healthcare workers and first responders.

On a similar note, BedTechs in Greendale continues to provide an essential service, refurbishing hospital beds. As a result, they have seen an uptick in business, which is good for the local economy.
