While the immediate risk of the Coronavirus within the United States is relatively low, it is important to always practice healthy habits.

(Batesville, Ind.) - As of January 30, 2020, there have been six confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus in the US. While we understand this may be concerning, the immediate risk within the United States is relatively low.

Signs and symptoms of the virus include:

  • Fever
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Other early symptoms to watch for include:

  • Chills
  • Body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Runny nose

If you have recently traveled to China or have been in close contact with someone who has and are experiencing the above symptoms, call your healthcare provider immediately. Please call ahead so the provider can take appropriate precautions to prevent the spread of infection. Be sure to tell the provider your symptoms and that you recently traveled to China or had close contact with someone who has.

“While we aren’t particularly concerned about the Coronavirus reaching our area, other seasonal respiratory infections are still on the rise,” says Deanna Youngman, MMH Infection Prevention Coordinator. “To protect both yourself and your family be sure to practice good hand hygiene, stay home when you’re sick, cover your cough and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.”

In an effort to be prepared, Margaret Mary’s Infection Prevention Coordinator has established protocols and will share all communications and updates during this time to all providers within our community and the surrounding areas we serve.
