INDIANAPOLIS - March 9-15 has been declared Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana.
To mitigate the effects of a severe tornado, every Hoosier business, school and family is urged to participate in the statewide tornado drill scheduled for Tuesday, March 11 at approximately 10:15 a.m.
Since 1950, Indiana has recorded over 1,400 tornadoes, resulting in more than 5,000 injuries and 300 fatalities.
In addition, Indiana experienced 76 flooding or heavy rain events in 2022, and since 1994, Indiana has received 12 disaster declarations related to flooding.
"Active participation in Severe Weather Preparedness Week and the statewide tornado drill and adherence to safety measures are essential to enhancing community resilience and minimizing the potential impact of severe weather events on the citizens of Indiana," reads a portion of the Severe Weather Preparedness Week Proclamation from Governor Braun.
