Man Leads Police Chase

(Decatur County, Ind.) - An Osgood man is in jail accused of leading police on a chase that ended with a crash in Decatur County.

 

Last Friday night, Donald Ward was stopped by a Decatur County Sheriff’s deputy on State Road 46 near New Point, the Batesville Herald-Tribune reported.

 

Ward, 23, took off as the deputy stood near his vehicle. The deputy was drug several feet before being freed.

 

The chase lasted several minutes and reached speeds of 80 MPH. It ended when Ward turned off his headlights in an attempt to evade police, and crashed into a tree on County Road 850 East.

 

Ward was treated for injuries at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was then taken into custody.

 

Ward faces several charges in Decatur County including Battery (Class C felony), Criminal Recklessness (Class C felony), Resisting Law Enforcement (Class D felony), Possession of Meth (Class D felony), and operating while intoxicated (Class A misdemeanor).

 

The deputy, Rob Goodfellow, was treated for a minor leg injury at the same hospital.
