Longtime Bright Firefighter Passes Away After Battle with Cancer

Our condolences to the McKinney family, Bright FD, and the Bright community.

(Bright, Ind.) - Family, friends, the Bright Fire Department and Bright community is mourning the loss of a longtime first responder. 

On Thursday afternoon, the Bright Fire Department announced the passing of Lt. Kevin McKinney. 

McKinney, a 23-year veteran of the Bright Fire Department, had been battling Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. 

Over his career, McKinney held the position of EMS Chief and went on to serve as Lieutenant and Safety Officer. 

"Our prayers go out to his wife and three children. As our department mourns, we would ask any donations be made at First Financial Bank in Bright under Kevin McKinney's name," reads a statement from Bright Fire Department. 

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Bright Christian Church, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. the fire department will conduct an accountability pinning ceremony, leading into the funeral service that will commence at 1 p.m. 

After the funeral, there will be a procession to Gibson Cemetery, where Kevin will take his final ride in the Bright Fire Department Ambulance.
