Layoffs & Liquidations Takes You Inside Historic Walnut Theatre

Curious what The Walnut looks like today?

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A local filmmaker has released footage from inside the Walnut Theatre.

Alex Chrzanowski leads a group called Layoffs & Liquidations that explores abandoned spaces in the region.

His latest video sparks nostalgic feelings among community members that frequented the Walnut Theatre in its heyday.

Much of the Walnut Theatre has remained untouched since its closure in the summer of 2009.

As you’ll see in Alex’s video, the concession stand is filled with equipment from the theatre’s final days including a popcorn maker, ice machine, and soda machine. A sign showing soda prices also remains ($1.50 for SM, $2.00 for M, $2.50 for L).

The video also takes you into the theatre room, projector room, storage spaces, and an upstairs apartment. Some items found in the theatre included unused popcorn buckets, lettering for the marquee, and a Titanic movie poster that still hangs on the wall.

While the Walnut Theatre has been dormant for over a decade, BPS Movements, Inc. hopes to revitalize the historic building into a space capable of hosting unique events such as open mic nights, improv, special screenings, and intimate musical performances.

The non-profit organization sees the revitalization as a community project. They are in the process of fundraising to support installing a new roof and making other improvements at the theatre. For more information, visit https://www.walnuttheatre.org/
