(Vevay, Ind.) - Some local firefighters provided a save to the Belle of Cincinnati riverboat overnight.

The paddlewheeler is on a three-day cruise down the Ohio River from Cincinnati to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby Great Steamboat Race. However, a problem Monday threatened to cut the trip short.

A valve issue caused the riverboat to lose on-board fresh water.

The Jeff-Craig Fire Department in Vevay helped by providing 8,000 gallons of new water to the boat. They transported the water to the boat docked at Paul Ogle Riverfront Park Monday night by using the fire department’s tanker trucks.

The firefighters then got a complimentary tour of the Belle of Cincinnati.

Earlier Monday, the boat and its 200 passengers made a sightseeing stop in Aurora. Below is video by John Blasdel of the Belle of Cincinnati navigating the Ohio River at Aurora.
