(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Ivy Tech Community College Senior Vice President Chris Lowery will receive a Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Since 2011, the Distinguished Alumni Council has helped chart the path of educational progress for the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs to be the best of its class by recognizing those who have distinguished themselves in their careers and who serve as accomplished role models for current O’Neill School students and the greater community as leaders.

“Over the years, I have been fortunate to have my professional and personal interests intersect in public policy, the private sector, philanthropy, and education,” said Lowery. “My experiences at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs were formative and critically important in allowing this to be possible. I am truly honored by this recognition and grateful for the positive impact the O’Neill School has on Indiana, our nation, and the global community.”

As an Indiana University alumnus, Lowery has given back to the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs by serving on the Distinguished Alumni Council and by mentoring students. Lowery has supported the school’s Manufacturing Policy Initiative and demonstrated his dedication to O’Neill students through the generous Chris R. and Jerilyn W. Lowery Scholarship. He is also a member of the Executive Council of the IU Alumni Association.

Like many O’Neill alumni, Lowery has transitioned between the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Before joining Ivy Tech, he led public policy and engagement efforts for Hillenbrand, Inc. He has also worked as the executive director of the Association of Indiana Counties, an aide to former Indiana Governor Robert D. Orr, and an aide to then-Senator Dan Quayle. While on staff for Governor Orr, he received the Sagamore of the Wabash Award for his service to the state of Indiana. Lowery holds a bachelor’s degree from the O’Neill School and a master’s degree from the DeVoe School of Business at Indiana Wesleyan University.

This annual event will take place later this month and will be presented virtually.
