Indiana SNAP Recipients Will Begin Receiving Maximum Benefit Amounts Next Week

Distribution will start on the 5th and conclude on the 23rd.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) has announced that over 152,000 households in Indiana will receive additional Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for the month of April.

These additional funds are given to help Hoosiers secure food and support for their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act allows states to provide SNAP households with the maximum allotment, based on household size.

SNAP households that are not currently receiving the maximum allotment will receive additional benefits, bringing their allotment amount to the maximum.

Households already receiving maximum benefits will not be able to receive additional benefits.

Indiana SNAP recipients receive their benefits through an electronic benefit transfer according to a schedule based on the first letter of their last name.

Distribution starts on the 5th and concludes on the 23rd  each month.

New applications authorized in the month of April will be eligible to receive the maximum allotment for their household.

FSSA will be informing various partners and stakeholders of these change. This will help inform and explain to SNAP recipients the reasoning behind additional allotment.

SNAP, a federal aid program administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provides food assistance to low and no income people and families living in the United States.

Distribution of the benefits happens at the state level.

In February, 559,600 Hoosiers from about 253,658 households received SNAP benefits.
