Lawmakers in the Indiana House and Senate will vote on marijuana-related bills in 2019 knowing that the governor doesn't support legalization.
(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb won’t support the legalization of either medical or recreational marijuana usage in the state.
The Republican first-term governor says he hasn’t changed his mind even after voters in neighboring Michigan approved a November ballot initiative legalizing the drug’s recreational use. Ohio is also starting up its medical marijuana program.
Governor Holcomb recently told reporters “I’m just not willing to look at that, especially since it is illegal right now according to the federal government.”
Several state lawmakers from both parties have expressed support for marijuana legalization, and bills seeking to do as much are likely to be filed when the 2018 legislative session starts later this week.
In October, a legislative study committee recommended against legalizing medical marijuana.
