(Rising Sun, Ind.) – The former police chief of the Rising Sun Police Department has been sentenced.
Harlis Hoover Jr. was arrested in November 2023 on 17 felony charges of bribery, official misconduct, fraud, theft, and ghost employment.
Earlier this month, Hoover pleaded guilty to Official Misconduct and Ghost Employment (both Level 6 Felonies). In exchange for his guilty plea, the other 15 charges were dismissed.
Hoover was sentenced to 730 days with 686 days suspended to probation. He also received eight days for actual days and good days spent.
The former police chief will serve the remaining balance of incarceration on the weekends at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
