(Dearborn County, Ind.) – Former Dearborn County Clerk of Courts Rick Probst will be on the ballot for county commissioner in November.

The Dearborn County Republican Party held a caucus on Wednesday, May 30 at which Probst received the most votes among six candidates who submitted their names. The others putting their names up for consideration were Lawrenceburg land title attorney Andrea Ewan, Aurora city attorney Alan Miller, former WSCH-FM disc jockey Ron Keith, local firefighter Andrew Tenhundfeld, and Dillsboro resident Cheryl Pepple.

“It is great to see so many people step up,” said Jim Thatcher, Dearborn County Republican Party chairman. “Thank you to all who participated, and congratulations to Rick Probst.”

Probst will replace Jeff Hughes on the Dearborn County general election ballot this coming fall. Hughes, who is leaving the race, was the candidate on the Republican ballot in the May 8 primary election.

When Hughes informed the party he and his family were moving out of the county, it was already too late to have his name removed from the primary ballot. He was running unopposed.

Probst appears to have a clear path to the Board of Commissioners. There is currently no Democratic candidate to oppose him, but political parties have until June 30 to fill vacant slots on the ballot.

Probst served as the county clerk from 2012 until he resigned the office last January. He has been a 20-year officeholder dating back to his days as a Center Township Advisory Board member.

A retired Army major, he and his wife Sharon live in Aurora.
