Former Clark County Sheriff Arrested on 15 Felony Charges

(Clark County, Ind.) – The former Clark County Sheriff and current Utica Volunteer Firefighters Association Chief has been arrested and charged with 15 felonies.

The Indiana State Police Special Investigation Division took Jamey Noel into custody on Wednesday afternoon following a five-month long investigation.

Noel came under investigation on June 13 after detectives received several criminal allegations of official misconduct from the current Clark County Sheriff.

He is accused of assigning four of the Clark County Jail Maintenance employees to work on his rental property while being on duty and being paid as Clark County employees. Other charges stem from selling and/or trading Utica owned vehicles for personal gain.

Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel was assigned as the Special Prosecutor and was recently presented the case for review. As a result, the following criminal charges have been levied against Noel:

  • One (1) count of Corrupt Business Influence, Level 5 Felony
  • Two (2) counts of Theft, Level 5 Felony
  • Three (3) counts of Theft, Level 6 Felony
  • Four (4) counts of Ghost Employment, Level 6 Felony
  • Four (4) counts of Official Misconduct, Level 6 Felony
  • One (1) count of Obstruction of Justice, Level 6 Felony

Noel is held in the Scott County Detention Center. His cash bond was set at $75,000 on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
