(St. Leon, Ind.) - The East Central High School marching band was one of just a dozen bands to appear in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, D.C.

The Trojans played in the parade in our nation’s capitol Saturday. The festival marks the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees gifted to Washington from Tokyo. In mid-April, the trees planted around the city are in full bloom.

The band left from St. Leon on Wednesday morning. Ahead of the parade, the students got to see landmarks such as Arlington National Cemetery, various war memorials, museums, Nation Archives, Ford's Theater, and Mount Vernon.

Being in the parade meant the band students had to miss the ECHS senior prom, but they made due. A band prom was held in their hotel banquet room on Friday evening.

The Trojans were the second band in line at the parade Saturday. They returned home Sunday morning.

The EC band is directed by Terren Frenz.
