East Central FFA Teams Compete At Regional Event

(St. Leon, Ind.) - East Central High Schools FFA Chapter competed in dairy cattle, livestock, and the CDE regional qualifier wildlife events over the weekend.

In the diary events the contest consisted of judging several different classes of dairy cattle and presenting oral reasons for their placing’s. East Central had three teams that participated in the contest the teams of John Kathman, Isaac Hartman, and Jacob Miller, along with Caleb Harper, Lloyd Darringer, and Sophie Callahan will be moving onto the state contest in May. Where Caleb Harper also took 12th place individually.

For the livestock competition there were two teams and one individual that participated. The contest consisted of various classes of animals that the participants had to evaluate, and then give oral reasons for certain classes. East Central’s team consisting of Bailey Grunkemeyer, Jared Callahan, Jacob Kuhn, and Heath Doll took 5th place and will be moving on to the state competition. Bailey Grunkemeyer was also the top member placing 1st.

Members of the wildlife habitat identified preserved animals, took a written exam, and evaluated wildlife habitats, with three teams competing. The team of Madison Shumate, Maddie Dawson, Alex Dudley, and Heath Doll placed 2nd and the team of James Bulach, Jacob Robbins, and Alex Newport placed 3rd. These teams will be being moving on to the state contest on May 11th. The team of Anna Loschiavo, Joseph Miller, Emma Gutfreund, and Bella Woodyard placed 7th.

East Central FFA Chapter is proud of these results and wishes the best of luck to the teams as they compete at the state level.
