(Dearborn County, Ind.) -  A Dillsboro man has been convicted by a jury for intimidation.

Billy Gene Luke, 38, is currently incarcerated for a Stalking conviction from a case in Dearborn Circuit Court from 2018, where he threatened an attorney, along with his wife and child, from his cell at the Department of Corrections.

A letter sent by Luke made several threatening comments about acts he would perpetrate on them upon his release from the DOC.

Last Friday, Luke was convicted of Intimidation (Level 6 Felony) and on a Habitual Offender Sentencing Enhancement.

“It is horrible that an attorney who undertook the defense of Mr. Luke and vigorously represented him on criminal misdemeanor case from 2012 now must worry about the safety of his wife and child. The threats Luke made involved violent, horrendous acts against an individual who are not in the legal system, but rather innocent victims. I am glad that jurors saw the evidence and convicted Luke,” stated Prosecutor Lynn Deddens.

A conviction on the Level 6 Felony carries a maximum sentence of two and a half years. The Habitual Sentencing Enhancement adds an additional two and a half years to six years. The range of sentence the Court can impose is up to 8 ½ years.

Luke will be sentenced on March 11 in Dearborn Superior Court II.
