Dearborn Co. Health Department, St. E Partner with IU to Promote Free Online Narcan Training

The training is available to anyone who lives or works in Dearborn County.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The Dearborn County Health Department, St. Elizabeth Dearborn, and Indiana University Prevention Insights are partnering to provide free online naloxone (Narcan) training to citizen responders.

A study was concluded in 2021 that resulted in the creation and testing of the Citizen Opioid Responders (COR), an online naloxone training program that seeks to reduce deaths from opioid overdoses by recruiting, training, and linking citizen responders to these events so they can administer lifesaving Narcan.

Over the past 18 months, the project has seen tremendous success. Prior to the launch of COR, approximately one to two community members received in-person training and were permitted to carry Narcan.

Since the implementation of the COR program, more than 230 Dearborn County residents have completed the online training and are now carry Narcan.

Anyone residing or working in the Dearborn County community can complete the training for free and receive Narcan at no cost from the Health Department.

“We are happy to support the COR program in Dearborn County,” said Dr. Stephen Eliason.” The ability to train more people in Narcan administration has been helpful and has the potential to save lives.”
