(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A Lawrenceburg couple is accused of Dealing in Methamphetamine after they interfered with a towing crew repossessing their vehicle.

Joseph Scruggs, 28, and Jacqueline Harris, 36, called 911 to report the repossession crew attempting to tow away their car from their home on Concord Square Drive on Wednesday, March 14, according to a probable cause affidavit.

A Lawrenceburg Police officer responded to the call. While speaking with Harris, the officer observed that she appeared to be exhibiting symptoms of withdrawal from drugs.

The officer requested to enter the couple’s home and was given permission by both. Once inside, the officer allegedly found methamphetamine in bags prepared for sale, as well as marijuana and pipes. An uncertified digital scale weighed the meth at 58 grams.

Three children – ages nine, six, and four – were also in the cluttered home. Police say the children were sleeping on the floor next to each other. The house was dirty with garbage on the floors and expired food.

Joseph Scruggs and Jacqueline Harris are each charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine in an Amount over 10 Grams (level 2 felony), Neglect of a Dependent (level 5 felony), Possession of Marijuana (class B misdemeanor), and Possession of Paraphernalia (class C misdemeanor).

Scruggs made his initial appearance in Dearborn Superior Court II on April 3. Judge Sally McLaughlin set his bond at $150,000 surety and $25,000 cash. In setting the high bond, the judge cited the significant amount of methamphetamine found in the presence of the children, as well as two other criminal cases for forgery and theft pending against Scruggs.

Jailers say Harris has already bonded out of jail at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center.
