Click It of Ticket Enforcement Starts May 20

Don't forget to buckle up.

(Undated) – Motorist are being reminded to buckle up and properly secure children in car seats or boosters during the annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The national seat belt enforcement campaign runs May 20 to June 2, coinciding with the Memorial Day holiday.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 11,302 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in 2022. Among the young adults (18 to 34) killed, 60 percent were unbuckled – one of the highest percentages for all age groups.

Buckle Up the Right Way

Always place the shoulder belt across the middle of your chest and away from your neck, and place the lap belt across your hips, not your stomach. You should never put the should belt behind your back or under your arm.

In effort to make sure motorists are properly buckled up, law enforcement across the country will be conducting high-visibility seat belt enforcement patrols.

The NHTSA says when worn correctly, seat belts reduce the risk of death by 45 percent for front-seat occupants and by 60 percent for pickup truck, SUV and minivan occupants.
