(Batesville, Ind.) – Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch was in Batesville last week for a grant presentation.
On April 8, Crouch presented a $160,462 check to the City of Batesville and New Horizons.
The funding will be used to create a device lending library featuring tablets, smart home devices, smart watches, health monitoring aids and more.
Individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities will be taught how to use tablets, computers, and other technology to connect to friends and enjoy online activities.
New Horizons will work with individuals and their families to set up friendship circles to help address the issue of social isolation. The non-profit organization will also be setting up activities such as bingo, crafting, exercises, and more.
The grant was made possible through the new Community Connections for People with Disabilities grant program and a partnership between the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the Indiana Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services.
