Car Show Organizer Donates $24K To ALS Association

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The ALS Association's Indiana Chapter was awarded a check for $24,500 from funds raised at the third annual Cruisin' to a Cure Car Show put on by Logan Lawrence.

The car show held last May had 448 registered cars with attendees traveling from seven different states including West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Connecticut. The farthest an attendee drove was 13 ½ hours. He said attendees occupied 35 hotel rooms at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel this year.

Logan, a Purdue University student and Lawrenceburg High School graduate, said he wants to make next year's car show a weekend event on both Saturday and Sunday.

The first Annual Cruisin to a Cure raised $15,000, the second year raised $23,000, and this year showed the highest amount raised at $24,200. The money came from everything from merchandise sales and car show entry fees, to more than 90 business sponsors and funds from the City of Lawrenceburg.

Logan thanked the City of Lawrenceburg and the city employees for all their help with the show.

Tina Kaetzel, the executive director for the Indiana Chapter of the ALS Association, accepted the donation check from Lawrence this week. She said there are currently 432 ALS patients in Indiana and many of them are right here in Dearborn County. The donation will make a huge impact for those patients.

The ALS Association focuses on research and assisting patients and their families with care and costs. Patients could be sick anywhere from four months to 15 years before the disease takes their life. There is still no effective treatment for ALS.

Logan thanked everyone for attending the check presentation and everyone who helped with this year’s show. He also thanked his family for all of their support and help.
