(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Dearborn County needs poll workers.

Clerk of Courts Gayle Pennington says chairs for both the local Democratic and Republican parties need people to become poll workers for the November 6 general election.

Republicans who want to be a poll worker should contact Dearborn County GOP chairman Jim Thatcher. Email Thatcher at jt9461@yahoo.com.

Democrats should get in touch with chairwoman Rebecca Barhorst at the Dearborn County Democratic Party. Email rbarhorstdcdem@gmail.com.

Pennington says the compensation for poll workers is between $100 and $150 depending on the position.

A shortage of poll workers has led Pennington and the Dearborn County Board of Elections to investigate the possibility of adopting a voting centers model for the county. If it becomes reality, fewer poll workers would be needed because there would be fewer polling locations throughout the county. Voters would be able to vote on Election Day at any of the voting centers instead of being required to vote at their assigned precinct.

The Dearborn County Commissioners could vote on a resolution approving the vote center model on Tuesday, September 18. The meeting starts at 5:00 p.m. at the Dearborn County Government Center in Lawrenceburg.
