Beshear, Cameron Win Primary Elections, Will Square Off for Governor in November

Beshear is seeking re-election, while Cameron hopes to make the jump from attorney general.

(Frankfort, Ky.) - Kentucky’s gubernatorial election is set for November.

This week, incumbent Governor Andy Beshear and current Attorney General Daniel Cameron won their respective primary races.

For Beshear, he won the Democratic primary in a landslide. The governor received 158,092 votes (91.1%). His opponents, Geoff Young and Peppy Martin, managed only 15,535 votes combined.

"I’m honored to be your Democratic nominee for governor, Kentucky," said Beshear in a Tweet. :Together, we’re going to continue to build on the progress of the past 3 years—moving our commonwealth not left or right, but forward. Let’s do this.:

Beshear will face off with Cameron in the November general election after the AG beat out 11 other candidates in the Republican primary.

"Thank you, Kentucky! Makenze and I are both humbled and honored. Let’s do this," said Cameron in a Tweet. 

Cameron received 127,411 votes (46.9%), followed by Ryan Quarles (21.9%), and Kelly Knight Craft (17.5%).

The general election will be held on November 7.
