BCEF Announces 2020 Scholarship Recipients

A total of $20,000 was awarded to Batesville High School seniors and alumni.

(Batesville, Ind.) - The Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) has announced the recipients of the 2020 scholarships  received by Batesville High School (BHS) graduates and alumni.

According to BCEF Executive Director Anne Wilson, a total of $20,000 will be awarded in scholarships.

Due to the efforts of BHS alumnus Sgt. Chad Keith, who was killed in Iraq during Operation Iraq Freedom, four $500 scholarships were available for BHS graduates and alumni this year. Award winners were required to interview a veteran and write an essay about patriotism. The four students awarded the $500 scholarships were Cadence Campbell, Joseph Hartman, and Callie Main, and BHS alumna Lauren Kieffer.

The Mary C. Horstman Scholarship was set up by Horstman to help students with post-secondary expenses. A $1,000 scholarship was awarded to three BHS graduates, including Caleb Huffmeyer, Nicholas Meer, and Sarah Ronnebaum.

BCEF's top scholarship, the James E. Fritsch Memorial Scholarship, awards three students with $5,000. Upon his passing, Fritsch left a sum of money to assist students pursuing post-secondary study. 2020 recipients include Erin Batta, Joseph Cerniglia, and Anna Moeller.

Recipients are chosen by a committee comprised of two BCEF board members, the BHS principal, and two community members.
