All proceeds from the event will support local athletes.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Special Olympics Indiana - Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties is gearing up for one of its biggest fundraisers of the year.

In partnership with the Lawrenceburg Fire Department and the City of Lawrenceburg, the annual Fire Truck Pull to support Special Olympics Indiana - Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties returns to Civic Park in Lawrenceburg on Saturday, August 13.

Teams of 15 or less will compete for the bragging rights in the ultimate tug-of-war with a 74,000-pound fire truck. Each team raises a minimum of $500 in pledges to see who can pull the fire truck 50 feet in the shortest amount of time.

Registration is open now at 2021 Fire Truck Pull - Special Olympics Indiana - Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties (soindiana-rod.org). Register by July 30 and all members of your team will receive the official fire truck pull t-shirt.

Teams may also register the day of the event.

Proceeds from the fire truck pull will stay local to support area athletes with year-round training and costs to travel to events.

Greg Townsend, Special Olympics County Program Coordinator, tells Eagle Country 99.3 that proceeds from the event help provide year-round training and competition in 13 different Olympic-type sports. Townsend adds that the money is used to buy uniforms, to rent facilities if needed, and to buy equipment, in addition to travel to local, state, nationally, and international events.
